Diagnosis and installation
With easy accessibility, the replacement of sparkplugs is one of the simpler do-it-yourself tasks for vehicle owners, however there are some things which must be taken into consideration for this task.
Particularly with modern vehicles it is important that you have the right tool. Otherwise there is a considerable risk of damaging the spark plugs when unscrewing them or screwing them in.
Only replace spark plugs once the engine has cooled down
With today's engines, which are normally equipped with aluminium cylinder heads, the aluminium expands more than the spark plug when heated up, with the consequence that the spark plug can be fastened in place. Therefore, spark plug replacement should only take place with the engine completely cooled down, as a basic rule.
Question of type
Make sure that the new spark plugs are the same spark plug type as the spark plugs being replaced. If you are not certain which spark plug type you need for your vehicle, take a look in our product finder or ask an expert from NGK or your local workshop.
