Requirements for ignition coils
Depending on the rotational speed, ignition coils must send a high-voltage pulse through the ignition coil high-voltage output hundreds or even thousands of times per minute towards the spark plug in order to ensure a reliable ignition.
Protection against heat and moisture
The design of an ignition coil and the materials used must be resistant to heat and moisture in the engine bay and function reliably, even in changing weather conditions. Oil and petrol vapours may not be able to harm the housing - damage to the housing would impair the function.
Precise fit and short-circuit resistance
Along with an absolutely precise fit for the seating specified by the automobile manufacturer, the most important features of an ignition coil include short-circuit resistance and pulse strength, sufficient dimensioning of cooling surfaces for the heat dissipation and temperature stability. In addition, the ignition coils should be highly resistant to influences such as spray and salt water.
