New Bentley Continental Supersports OE success for NGK

Ratingen, 06.07.2010 – NGK Spark Plug Europe, the leading spark plug manufacturer, has announced that its spark plugs are being fitted exclusively as OE on the new Bentley Continental Supersports.

The Continental Supersports is, in the words of its manufacturer, “the fastest, most powerful Bentley ever”. It has a 12-cylinder twin turbo charged 6 litre engine, which delivers 463 kW and takes the new top model Bentley to 60 mph in only 3.9 seconds, while also giving a top speed of 205 mph.

Compared to the engine of its predecessor – the Continental GT Speed – the new W12 Supersports engine delivers 3.5% higher performance and 6.7% better torque. In doing so it still manages to consume 0.3 litres less fuel over 60 miles. In addition, it can even be operated with bioethanol without output loss, so reducing CO2 emissions by up to 70%.

To ensure perfect ignition in this high output engine – in both gasoline and in ethanol operation – NGK has developed a new double platinum spark plug – the PZFR7S11EG – which is being installed exclusively as OE. The platinum applied to both the centre and ground electrode provide very high erosion resistance.

In addition the ground electrode is made of a special nickel-chromate alloy with added aluminium. This alloy is also used in furnaces and in combustion turbines. It offers the highest resistance against high temperature corrosion and offers superb anti-corrosion characteristics in ethanol operation. With a heat range of 7 the NGK spark plug developed specifically for this new engine is fitted perfectly to the thermal conditions and features a special insulator in Wide Range Design to prevent the plug from fouling when starting from cold.
