Petrol engines with controlled catalystAround 35 million of the petrol engine cars licensed in Germany are equipped with a controlled catalyst, whose effective operation is guaranteed by the use of a lambda sensor.
The catalyst can only effectively work and convert the harmful exhaust into environmentally compatible gases with an optimally matched air/fuel mix. To achieve this, the lambda sensor upstream of the catalyst continuously measures the residual oxygen content in the exhaust and controls the optimum composition of the air/fuel mix via the motor management system.
NGK picked up on the trend to reduced exhaust emissions early and working closely together with the automobile industry was able to develop innovative contributions for pollution-optimised drive concepts. Today, NGK is the worldwide largest manufacturer of lambda sensors, which are sold under the brand name NTK. Leading vehicle manufacturers, in particular those from Europe, have been using NTK sensors in the original equipment since the beginning of the 1980’s.
Based on these many years’ of experience in the development and manufacture of lambda sensors, the sales programme has been extended even further. With 248 types, the NTK range now supplies the right sensor for virtually every make and model of vehicle.
It goes without saying that all components, terminal connections, element types and heating resistors correspond to the sensors in the original equipment and guarantee problem-free assembly. Extensive tests by the TÜV (German technical inspectorate) prove the compatibility of NTK sensors with the original part. Each NTK sensor is supplied with an ABE (General type approval) of the “Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt” (German Federal Office for Motor Traffic).
